Having chosen my verse for the year, "......but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord." I'm now searching out exactly what that 'looks like'. I thought I'd check out what others might have to say on the subject. (I love google!)
I found this one: What Does it Mean to Serve God? and found these verses helpful:
1 Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Quote- "God is seen as glorious when all our serving is moment-by-moment receiving from God’s supply."
Psalm 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Yes! This is how I want to serve God...with gladness and singing!
And then What Does the Bible Say About Servant/Servanthood? gave me this great quote: "Living is giving; all else is selfishness and boredom."
Why Is Serving God Important also went to 1 Peter 4, but also included verse 10," As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
And then a portion of scripture that I'd already added to my study- Romans 12:1,2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
And another quote,"Paul’s point is that for those who have been saved by the blood of Jesus, it
only makes sense to honor Him. Giving ourselves to God is our spiritual act of
It’s only reasonable that we would serve the God who has provided the greatest
service of all: salvation from sin and self and eternal life with Him in
Nothing new here, nothing earth shattering, just some basics....and right now, that's where I need to start.
What does serving God 'look like' in your life?
