I found this one: What Does it Mean to Serve God? and found these verses helpful:
1 Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Quote- "God is seen as glorious when all our serving is moment-by-moment receiving from God’s supply."
Psalm 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Yes! This is how I want to serve God...with gladness and singing!
And then What Does the Bible Say About Servant/Servanthood? gave me this great quote: "Living is giving; all else is selfishness and boredom."
Why Is Serving God Important also went to 1 Peter 4, but also included verse 10," As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
And then a portion of scripture that I'd already added to my study- Romans 12:1,2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
And another quote,"Paul’s point is that for those who have been saved by the blood of Jesus, it only makes sense to honor Him. Giving ourselves to God is our spiritual act of worship. It’s only reasonable that we would serve the God who has provided the greatest service of all: salvation from sin and self and eternal life with Him in heaven."
Nothing new here, nothing earth shattering, just some basics....and right now, that's where I need to start.
What does serving God 'look like' in your life?
serving God to me is still being patient and kind - even if no one, but Jesus, knows about it ...
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you! isn't it grand that we are getting a warm reprieve? :)
Excellent verses. If people are glad and showing the joy of Jesus, it makes you wonder if they are getting filled with HIS living water each day. HE is soo, sooo, good to us. My prayer most days is that people are able to see HIS light in me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by ladies.
ReplyDeleteSaija...I think that's the key to real service...it doesn't matter if no one but God sees it. Oh, and our temperature has been better, but we've still had a cold wind...hibernation time!
Lynda...Amen....that is what I want...but somewhere along the way I've lost some of my joy.
